Discover your Nature
What is Kenshô?
Kenshô is a word of Japanese origin that means “discover your nature” and is used to refer to the moment when you discover what inspires you. And now, Kenshô is also a family business created, in 2015, with the mission of developing sustainable products derived from organic rice from the Delta Ebro.
The project was created from the fusion of the two passions of the founders.
Humbert
A specialist in sustainable businesses, he sees the quality of the rice from the Delta Ebro Natural Park as the ideal ingredient and place to develop Kenshô.
Meritxell
Fourth generation of rice farmers from the Delta Ebro with great passion for explaining the nature of rice.
Kenshô became a reality with the launch of the first sake made in Spain and the second in Europe, in 2015. With the particularity that we produce a junmai style sake (rice wine) without sugar, preservatives, gluten nor sulfites, just with authentic flavor. Today, after more than 5 years, we offer the diversified products such as amazake, miso, soy sauce, rice, etc.
Through koji (a rice fungus/oryzae), we transform rice into tastier and healthier foods, to produce and market pioneering products in Europe such as sake, miso, shio-koji, amazake or tamari.
All our products are ecologically certified by the CCPAE.
The Kenshô Philosophy
Develop & preserve the rice heritage
Culturally, economically & environmentally friendly. For this reason, our products are made in Kan Kenshô, a family farmhouse located in l’Ampolla, within the Ebro Delta Natural Park. Kan Kenshô is a antique farmhouses with history of +60 years. In this, orange trees, vineyards, cereals, etc. have been planted. Now, with the arrival of the new generation with Humbert and Meri, the turn has come to innovate inspired by Japan.
Defend Biodiversity
The Delta Ebro Natural Park is an example of a Mediterranean wetland with high biological value that must be protected.
As part of our philosophy, Kenshô is committing to using a local variety of rice from the Delta Ebro, since native species are more respectful of the ecosystem itself, while generating greater cultural, environmental and economic wealth. Likewise, Kenshô is an information point accredited by the Delta Ebro Natural Park and in Sustainable Tourism by EUROPARC.
DO you know Delta Ebro?
The Delta Ebro is a geographical phenomenon located at the mouth of the Ebro River, in the province of Tarragona, which forms one of the most important wetlands in Europe. Its main characteristic is its perfectly drawn “arrow” shape, which gains ground from the Mediterranean, extending nearly 22 km into the sea.
It is the third largest delta in the Mediterranean and, since 1983, it has been recognized as a Natural Park and named by UNESCO as part of the Terres de l’Ebre Biosphere Reserve. These reserves have been chosen, since 1971, to be designated areas of specific and protected habitats, and are governed according to sustainable development precepts. Biosphere reserves have the objective of harmonizing the conservation of biological and cultural diversity, and economic and social development through the relationship of people with nature.
